Is DHEAS The Secret to Success?
Link noted between hormone level and wealth
A lot of interest was garnered by an article in a British newspaper indicating that rich and happy people have elevated levels of DHEAS in their bodies. A hormone secreted by the kidneys, DHEAS appears to be associated with greater amounts of exercise and an active life. Similarly, it is found more often in rich people, which could indicate that DHEAS levels which are higher may motivate people toward making themselves more productive, healthy, and wealthy. The question then arises as to whether people who have lower levels may benefit physically and financially by getting some kind of DHEAS supplement, injection, pill, or treatment. In addition to more money, the additional presence of the hormone is said to result in better memory and the ability to cope with tasks requiring more mental stamina. As a study of people over 50 indicated, more DHEAS correlated with less obesity, and less likelihood to smoke or eat unhealthy foods. Could a change of lifestyle and diet increase DHEAS in people and make them richer, or does the (relatively) healthier diet of rich people create more DHEAS?
Both DHEA and DHEAS are created in the adrenal cortex, and while DHEA is available as a supplement, DHEAS is not as common because of how it behaves and passes between membranes.
Notes and Special Information
Special note: As with any study, the DHEAS numbers may not prove that correlation equals causation. It could be that rich people create DHEAS, but DHEAS does not create rich people. Otherwise, we could all take a pill and become rich.
